LOVE Through the Eyes of the Young
I used to think about the real meaning of LOVE. And as usual, figuring it out isn’t an easy thing. As I grew older, things have changed somehow. Gradually, piece by piece, I feel the puzzle of love is nearing completion. As experiences come one after another, so do lessons and learning that have taken root in my soul.
I have come to understand that I have been blessed with the opportunity to grow with my pupils. Slowly, I have realized, there is so much wisdom in these young minds. And since it is February, Love Month, I asked them to define love. Well, I was expecting the usual childish stuff, but it turned out the other way around, for these are things that I have somehow forgotten along the way to adulthood.
Through careful observation and innocent reflection, my cherished 11-year old pupils gave me these definitions of love:
- True love is not to be found, only to be felt. I did not give flowers to someone because I haven’t felt true love. And for me, it’s not something you can play with.
- Love is like Science. It is hard to find the right chemistry.
- I don’t fight with the people judging me, but I fight for the one I love.
- Love is a poison, and it hurts you inch by inch.
- Love is sacrificial. When you love someone, you are ready to do anything even if it means hurting yourself.
- Love is like an adventure. You have to face hardships before you reach it.
- Love is like money. If you spend too much, it will go away.
- Love is a crazy thing, because when I see her face, my mind goes crazy.
- Love is a life that is never-ending. It is endless.
- Love is not like clothes. If there’s something new, you’re going to throw it away.
- Love means loving a friend.
- Love is always by your side. Wherever you go, you can always find love.
- Love is passion and a great responsibility. It is PRICELESS.
- Love is not obsession.
- Love can be someone’s BEST or WORST experience. It is similar to a rose. It’s beautiful but hurtful.
- God is love because God made love. Whenever you need Him, He is there. He is always by your side. He gives you all your needs, sometimes your wants, but most especially He gave you your parents.
Does love have a meaning to me? Of course! I am not talking about Eros love. This is something that will never die.
In my six years of teaching, love spells my relationship with my pupils. And I will love them forever, just as a mother loves her children. We are family. That for me is LOVE.
