A Gift Worth Keeping

A giant Christmas tree adorned with lights and decors. Friends, couples, families clothed with smiles and cheerful laughter. A bay transformed into a haven of mirth and glee.

I was there, squeezed in the growing multitude of people. I could feel the smile on my face as I felt my muscles tense. Nothing could be so relaxing than physically seeing two almost impenetrable realities – the gladness made manifest by the angelic voices of the choir echoing through the wide expanse, and God’s marvelous piece speaking through the waves that crash through rock borders, dancing stars in their full splendor in the night sky, with the gentle moon daintily showing traces of its features shaped by universal forces.

Awe filled me and I simply thanked God for everything.

A surge of peace flowed through my being as my hands were clasped by two gentle hands, both belonging to my Master’s personal gift to me. I turned to look and was caught unprepared with the loveliest mirrors I’ve ever seen. His enigmatic eyes held mine in captivity. And, like a woman’s knight, motioned me to ready my eyes for the wonderful thing that is about to unfold.

Seconds passed and I heard a loud sound. Fireworks exploded uncontrollably, each with a perfect timing that produced magnificent flashes of lights in different hues. People gasped in total admiration. The innocent and the young cheered as the night sky bathed in its glory. The whole place was turned into a magical forest, with hearts set to enjoy the momentary bliss. For once, I felt happy.

I was awakened from this state when I sensed a light movement on my hair. I turned again, and there he was, with eyes so full of love and passion that I could feel it flowing through my inmost being. I looked back, with eyes caressing his, trying to send a message that only our hearts could understand. We stood there for a moment, each soul overflowing with love so untainted and real that proved any word useless. Thanking God wasn’t enough. A gesture of gratitude is what I could give. Silently, I prayed, with our fingers intertwined. I made a promise that this man I will serve and love without any reservation and self-interest.

It was simply unfathomable. God in His greatness and wisdom made the heart the center of our being. It is only through this that we fully enjoy life. Our capacity to love gives us the license to live, opening doors for dreams and wishes that form part of our reality. His bounteousness allows us to share in His infinite love, His Divine Providence guiding each soul into its own personal legend.

Still mesmerized by the sacredness of the moment, I managed to say “Thank You” half-whispering. I wasn’t prepared for his answer as he said “I love you”. A genuine smile appeared on my face which he reciprocated with a soft kiss on my hair.

This may be a very simple thing for some, but for the two of us, it was incomparable. Full hearts see the world in a different view. Everything just turns into a beautiful melody.

This Christmas was made more special by Jesus. He sent me a gift as beautiful as its wrappings. The giver and the gift. This, indeed, is a gift worth keeping.

PS

You brought me pure joy. I will be with you ‘till forever. My heart is yours to keep and yours in mine. We’ll build dreams together, share moments of joy and sadness together, and share life together.
